Old World wines (France, Italy, Spain) tend to be earthier and lighter-bodied, shaped by centuries of tradition. New World wines (USA, Argentina, Australia) lean riper and fruit-forward, with warmer growing climates.
"Body" describes how light or full a wine feels in the mouth — think skim milk versus cream. Tannin is that dry, gripping sensation in reds, coming from grape skins, seeds, and oak aging.
Whiskey, gin, rum, and agave spirits each start from a different base — grain, botanicals, sugarcane, or agave — then take their character from how they're distilled and aged.
